I'm sure it's been stated before, but this engine is NOT a V-twin. It is an inline or parallel twin.

Just 1. You could put a 2nd one on if you really felt the need...I do not.
The left, non brake, side has a hub designed for a brake. Polaris decided it is not needed. I agree.

thanks Jerry,
I am a bit concerned about the brake fading..
I was also wondering when you apply full rear brake (the foot brake if i am not
mistaken) do you get only one wheel (the one that has the disc brake) to lock?
or somehow you get an even distribution of the brake force?..

any good source of photos and videos of the 2010 Sportsman 850 Touring EPS??
I really want to look into some high-resolution photos from various angles of the ATV..

many thanks for your time..

The rear axle is locked. It is NOT a differential. It works the same as if it had a solid axle like on a sport quad.
I've not noticed any fading at all. Most utility quads only have a single rear brake. Some are on the drive shaft, some have a wet brake as part of the rear end. You are over-thinking this. (Guilty of it myself at times!)

You are more than welcome.
Here's a link to my photobucket. Nothing great, but it might help.
