I like the toughness, the durability of the casing.
The tread grips when you need it to, yet you can break em loose if you want to slide around a bit. Tread wears like iron. Over 4000 miles on my first set and still have 16/32" tread depth.
XTRs, tho' not a true mud tire, do fairly well in the slop. They clean out well and the sidewalls bite pretty well also.
I rode w someone who had XTRs when I had the BHs mounted. Both of us on 700 Grizzlies. 12-16 inches of snow. He rode around better than I could on the unbroken trail. I've since simply used the XTRs in the winter w no complaints.
