So should oil be amber in color or dark after 20 hrs of use is the question I want to know. Years ago I asked a Honda engineer this question due to the natural gas civic's oil being so clean after many miles of use compared to a regular gas engine. He told me that the difference is the fuel type obviously and in a normal gasoline engine if the oil is still amber in color after 5k of use then its not doing its job of capturing contaminents. In fact it should be dark in color. This doesn't mean its necessarily bad just that it's detergents are doing what they're intended to do. I'm no engineer in any way, but this guy I talked to seemed to know his stuff.
