Although 8 ft. sounds wide enough , it may not be. My '03 polaris has the old style hubs and can squeeze into a 48" spot, so you could put 2 of those side by side. my buddies '05 is wider and you cannot get two side by side in a 96" pocket. you may want to think about on-off loading from the side and have a 4" high rail on the side , that would be used for cable tie-downs and a stop curb as well.
my two cents

We have three machines, opted for a 7x12 with side loading. But its not that great, but it works. Turth be told, its a better trailer for two machines, one side loaded and one rear.
I to will be building another trailer, but it will be a one up, flat bed 5x8'. It means two tow vehicles, but will be better for me overall.

I 2nd the opinion to make the side rails removable. I'm not a fan of riding over the side rails to load the ATV and my wife flat out refuses to do it.
Also, I'd go a little longer than 14'. If you load them on length wise, 14' is the absolute minimum you want. If you mount your spare on the front of the trailer and have a ramp on the back, it is VERY tight to get them both on the trailer.

Yeah, if your planning on loading them legthwise then it might be tight depending what machins your hauling. Here's some pics of a trailer i threw together a few years ago. I believe the trailer frame was 14' 2", and i added a piece of 5" square tubing to the back to mount the ramp to. Still had to lay the ramp back a little to get the 500 on the back with bumpers on it. Ended up selling that trailer when i bought the xp cause it was too damn wide to fit on there as the ramp brackets were only 53" wide.

Hey Stricker, why doesn't your XP fit on a 53" wide trailer? Did you put wider tires on it? (Looks like a nice job on the trailer.)
