GO Pro HD Hero
Anyone using this camera? I'm thinking of picking it up for the summer riding, looks like it would be worth the money from the video clips i saw of it. is it as durable as it looks?

^ same boat as you. 1 month and 4 days for me left too.
I have been considering getting the 960 model that is $179. It looses a few features that the 1080p models have, but I dont think that will bug me any, as I dont see myself using those features really that much if I had them.

GoPro is used by a lot of guys. Even saw it being used on Swamp Loggers and Dirty Jobs. The new ones are full 1080p HD which is cool. The only thing I don't like about the current crop of HD Action Cams is the fisheye lens. It bulges the scene and everything at the top and bottom of the shot is distorted. Personally, I hate it. Very annoying when filming forest scenes. The 1080p camera I like the best right now is the Vio POV HD. Kind of expensive though at around $600.
I am using a $99 Tachyon XC Standard Def cam right now. It works very well for the money spent. With the crummy video rendering on youtube it doesn't seem to matter its SD anyway.

I really like mine and all the different ways it can be mounted and attached.
Get an extra battery if you plan on doing a lot of filming at one time. If it's cold you won't get near the stated battery life.

I have had both the SD GoPro Hero and now the HD Hero. They both are great cameras but the video quality on the HD is WAY BETTER!
I have over 20 hours of footage from last year and it all looks great.
You can get one on eBay for about $225 if your lucky.

I would not get the 960. The performance of the HD Hero is leaps and bounds better than the 960. You get a lot more for your money with the HD.
i.e.
Superior white balance control with two focal options better bright/low light picture quality (the 960 was prone to sensor overload when facing the light source creating black spots on your videos)
Microphone is way better so you can really hear the action with no clipping or pops
Two cases for your camera. One for wet conditions and the second for dry so that the back can open to get better sound quality.
720P picture quality
Rechargeable battery that lasts for a continuous 5 hours of shooting (960 uses AAA batteries, could get three hours of recording out of lithium batteries)
I would really save up and wait to get the HD. I sold my 960 a few weeks after getting the HD because the quality of the videos just didn't compare.
I do wish they offered one that wasn't a fisheye lens, I would love to have both.
