Wink Auxiliary 12V power source....

Afternoon guys...

Like all Sportsmans, I have a 12V port on my pod of the 700, but nothing on the Trail Boss and nothing in the rear of the Sportsman.

I want to be able to charge my cell or GPS while inside the rear box of my 700 for security and dust proof reasons. I need a 12v port for GPS on the wife's Trail Boss.

I also finally found the sandpaper stair tread stickers. I saw another member here do this amd liked the idea so I did the same... Now my feet will not scratch up my fenders!!!

I went to the parts store and picked up a spool of 14 GA speaker wire, two 12 Cigarette power receptacles. One factory style and one surface mount. A couple bags of marine weather proof connections and two weather PAC fuse holders.

I spliced the speaker wire into one side of the fuse holder and put a battery connection on the other ends.

On the Sportsman, I attached to the battery with the ground and positive. Then mounted the fuse holder to the frame beside the pos side connection. I ran the wire along the frame out the rear rack hole and zip tied it to the bottom of the rack. Ultimately, I want to use a weather pas plug and drill a hole thru the side of the box then seal the hole with the wires going thru with silicone. BUT I couldn't find a plug I liked. So I just left extra wire and ran it up the outside and inside the box near a hinge. It will get pinched bu the seal but should not hurt anything. I used the surface mount 12V plug and attached it to the lid of the box on the inside.

On the Trail Boss, I mounted the fuse holder to the frame just behind the battery and bolted up the battery connections. Then ran the wires up the frame to the headlight on the right side. Using a 7/8" paddle bit I made a hole in the side for the 12v port.

I cut wire to length and mounted the 12v port and buttoned up the plastics.

Both are fused with small 7.5amp fuses and have constant power so I will have to be conscious of things attached. I may add a switch in the box. But the Trail Boss will remain constant power.

Took about an hour a piece and was not very costly at all. Let me know what you think! Tell me what you have done!

Great job!

Thought about doing this to the wifes rear box but didn't know how to exactly approach this, this looks really good. Really need to do something like this on my rancher because I don't have a front box to safely charge something!

Thanks guys!!

I received the Weather pac connectors last week and put them in today. it was easy and they will proved water proof connections when I want to remove the box.

They are nice plugs! You start by splitting the wires and stripping back the insulation.

Then slide on the wire seals or gaskets.

Now install and crimp on the inserts that make the actual electrical connection.

Now insert these into the plug covers and push them in until they seat with a click. A word of caution, the second one you do, be sure you orient the wires so the correct polarity as you get ONE SHOT. Once inserted your done. They cannot be removed.

I drilled a 5/16" hole thru the side of the box to feed the wires thru. Then sealed them up with RTV silicone.

I tucked the plug behind the cushion. When the box is off, it will conceal easily under the seat.

Now time to RIDE!!
