A/C inop.

the a/c on my father in laws jimmy does not work. It's fully charged and the relay test good. there is power at the compressor, when you push the a/c button on the dash it flashes but the a/c does not turn on. Any ideas? Does anyone have a a/c wiring diagram?

Is the a/c clutch kicking in? If it's not you can bypass the clutch cylce switch on the accumalator. To do that unplug the switch jump the 2 terminals on the pigtail and if the clutch kicks in the switch is bad. The only other thing is that it's building up to much pressure and the high pressure switch is keeping it from working. Has the orfice tube been changed?

Clutch cycle switch or low pressure switch same thing. If when you jump that switch the clutch engages 1 of 2 things could be happening. Bad switch or low on freon. It takes about 3 cans of 134a to fill it up with freon. The control panel inside should be good. That switch cost about $15.00. I would try the switch first. Glad to help you.
btw I have been selling auto parts for about 23yrs. I am not an a/c person I am basing that off what I have learned mself and what others have told me.

I agree if you jump out low pressure switch and compressor clutch engages. You have low refrigerant or bad pressure switch. Jump the switch out and run a/c. If it cools good switch is defective. Then replace switch. Should have a schraeder valve fitting so you should not loose your refrigerant. Very common for switch to fail.
