Trailer Modification Ideas

Good Day All,

So I have recently purchased this 12’ snowmobile / quad trailer. It is a drive-on drive-off design with a slide out loading ramp. It comes with 15” tires, ski tie downs that secure to the deck with wing bolts, rubber sealed lights, front mount jack, stack pockets and rub rails.

I am looking to add my own touch to it. So far I have sanded the rough plywood deck smooth, applied a dura-deck coating and re-installed the deck bolts with washers underneath them to prevent from splitting the plywood. I have installed ½” x ¾” copper pipe couplings in the holes that the wing nuts go through in the deck to prevent damage to the threads and prevent the deck from splintering.

I am looking at installing a wireless back up camera that is installed directly into the bumper and is flush with the rear marker lights. I would run the monitor wires through the trailer next to the trailer wires and have the connections next to the trailer plug. I would then run the wires from my monitor in my truck to the trailer hitch receiver to allow for is hook-up and disconnect. I am also looking at replacing all the rubber sealed lights with LED trailer lights ( If I submerge my trailer so deep my lights get water in them I have bigger issues than worrying about my lights). I was also considering installing a tool box in front of the rock shield, just behind the spare tire mount.

If anyone has any other ideas or suggestions I would like to hear them.

I'm a little confused about all the wiring you have to do for a wireless camera?

I installed a small box with a flip open bottom that would store the electrical plug when not in use. It keeps it from getting corroded. My trailer has the flat 4 pin, I see yours has the round 7 pin. Not sure if they make one to fit it.

Tool Man

I agree Tool Man. In my opinion there shouldn’t be any wiring for a wireless device; however the monitor needs to be hooked up to the monitor while in use.

That sounds like a great idea. Maybe if i cant find one for a 7 pin connection I will just use a a PVC conduit box.

I think the wireless camera still needs 12v to operate. If so (and if the trailer and tow vehicle are setup for it) all he has to do is tap into the auxillary 12v wire on the trailer. If the trailer isn't already setup for it, it's nothing to run the wire from the 7 pin connector to the camera. I don't see more than an hours worth of work to mount and wire it, even stopping to get a second beer.

BTW- Nice looking trailer !!!! I've been trying to find one I can load 3 bikes on.

Went to the local RV shop today and picked up a 7-Way Plug Guard and installed it on the trailer. Easy install and appears to be a good product so far. Will provide an update after it has been field tested.
