polaris winch cable replacement

So I install a Warn Snow Blade and first time plowing my old frayed (I didn't expect much) steel cable snapped. I purchased a synthetic cable and am trying to install it....my question is now that i have the old steel one wound all the way out how do i remove it from the drum? It seems almost welded in there :S

Some have a button that the line wraps around to keep it from going back through the hole,and some have a crimped on fitting that a screw or small bolt goes thru to attach it. Mine just wraps around itself and you have to watch that you don't unspool too much line. This has some good tips for you.
