Ford Ranger

I would just like to say good by to the Ford Ranger line. Ford is making their last Ranger and closing the factory down. My first truck was a hand-me-down 1988 with over 250,000 miles my Dad gave me. I owned a '91 Explorer (I know, its not really a Ranger, but the early models were just Rangers with an enclosed back end). Drove it over 200,000 and sold it. I think its still on the road. I currently own a 2003 and plan on driving it for many, many more years. IMO, I don't think any company has made a better truck. May everyone who owns one drive it til it just won't go anymore.

Wow. I think everyone has a story about a Ranger. Kind of an iconic vehicle if you ask me. In fact, a friend's father had a 1973 Ranger back when they were a full size model. I'm a Shipper/Receiver and couldn't count all the private courier and Hot Shot companies that own them.

But like anything else, it's probably become less profitable. Usually when a design gets long in the tooth it looses it's appeal and car companies move onto something fresh.

If you go back through automotive history there are many models which were popular, solid and proven but were discontinued due to lack of interest.

On a similar note, Ford is actually still going to make the Ranger, but a different design and not sell it in America or Canada. It will have many options, including 4 doors and you can even git it with a diesel engine. The size will be somewhere between the original Ranger size and a full size. I wish they would sell them in America. I would love a 4 door Ranger with a small diesel. Probably be my dream truck.

This is most likely due to the introduction of the ecoboost F150. Same fuel mileage but with more room and higher payload. Sometimes I miss my ranger, but I would never trade back from my F150.

I thought they've been making 4 door Rangers in Europe for a while...they look similar to the Explorer Sport Trac



I guess they've stopped the Sport Trac too, given that the new Explorer is, well, really just a big Edge.

They have. They aren't sold here becasue of the emission requirements.

I've had a 1998, 1994, and now a 2003 Ranger. Loved them all, sorry to see them go, but I hope they replace it with something better.

I bought a brand new Ranger 4X4 in 1985. It was a 2.8L, 5 Speed, 4X4, long bed. I drove that truck for almost ten years and sold it with 175K.

Aside from general things like brakes, tires, oil and filters, the only "problems" I had was one main bearing in the tranny. I did put one clutch in it as well. It was a great truck!

im not a ford man (dad worked at GM for 30 years), but still sad to see it go. be awesome to have a mid sized truck with a deisel motor in it, i thought i heard about ford doing this i guess it was in other countries.

my loss came in i think 06? i was and S-10 man, my first was an 88' 4cyl 5spd i went thru a rear set of tires a summer on it and had a repair man replace my clutch for free because "he'd never seen a clutch do that before" LOL. think it had 180,000 on it when i sold it. next was a 94 ex cab 6 cyl. auto took my dad two weeks to talk me into buy it..........it was "pink". as soon as i could aford better i bought a 04 ZR2 4x4 s-10 sadly i totalled it in a 6 car pile up outside of milwaukee and now have a quad cab silverado, i do love the fact that more then one other person can ride with me and i dont look like a gypsy when i go up north hunting or somthing LOL
