Pepperoni Roll....who eats them?

So I was thinking the other day on night shift how when you travel to other states and you ask for things at the grocery store they look at you weird because they either think you made something up or are trying to figure out what you need.

I began talking to my buddy on shift who use to like in Tennesse and told me that he introduced his co-workers at Ormet to pepperoni rolls. I laughed because we had gone to Bristol Motor Speedway for years and had people asking us all the time what we were eating at the track.

So just a little history....

The pepperoni roll was invented by Giuseppe "Joseph" Argiro at the Country Club Bakery in Fairmont, West Virginia, in 1927. The rolls originated as a lunch option for the coal miners of north-central West Virginia in the first half of the 20th century.

Anyway, just wanted to throw this out...might be a good thread!

Love pepperoni rolls. Roma bakery in Dearborn, MI makes some good ones.

Are you kidding, that's the second thing in my hunting pack right behind the slim jims, and then the vienna sausages. And make a good breakfast when on the road. I love those things.

Around here we have fresh cut meats that at the meat dept in stores they cut it for you. Items such as rag bolonga, goose liver, lunch meat, and coon cheese. Not real goose or coon that's just what it's called. We also eat homade chocolate gravy, german burgers, and a long time ago we made possum grape jelly. That's just some of it.

How do these differ from calzones? Never heard it called a pepperoni roll up here, usually called a calzone or a stromboli if theres pizza sauce inside of it.

Up here if the sauce is on the side for dipping it's a calzone, if the sauce is on the inside it's a stromboli. But then again we call milkshakes cabinets and we have coffee milk. Try to order a coffee milk in the south and see what they bring you, usually a coffee with milk on the side
