2001 polaris magnum 4x4 locking up drivetrain

Just got a good deal on this bike for my kids. After riding it a few times it locked up on my son. The only thing that locked up was the front end and he was in two wheel drive. When I put it in low gear it would move forward but make a terrible sound from it seems like the transmission, but put it in reverse and it runs fine with no noise what so ever. After it sat for a few days and I calmed down I decided to check it out and it went forward but only for a few minutes of riding and locked up again. I have taken out the front hubs and checked them out and all is there and nothing broken. Scratching my head on this one. I am pretty well capable of working on just about anything but not sure if I have to rebuild the whole thing or if just a gear for the front end. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

It might can be repaired with a bearing, but you might have a gear broken. I have a 1998 Sportsman 500 4x4 that I am parting out. I think its the same. After you tear it down and you are interested send me a PM.

I appreciate that and I am hoping that it is just something "simple" like that. I'm just expecting the worst and hoping for the best. I plan on starting the tear down shortly after Christmas and see what I can figure out.
