I used to have a cheap ass Karcher. It was like a tornado, it sucked and blew! Now I load my ATV onto the trailer and bring it to the local wash bay in one of the truck bays. They have a degreaser/presoak/engine cleaner feature, then I run high pressure soap, then finish off with high pressure wax. Looks like new every time. At first I was leery about using a pressure washer, but even the dealer uses one to clean machines. They showed me critical points to avoid with the high pressure and I have not had any issues. Machine looks great too!

I have a Troy Built 3500 psi, with a Honda motor on it. Fires up in one pull every single time. 4 years and running!

When clean, I spray WD-40 on as many metal parts as I can. I use car wax on the plastic. I rarely have to use high pressure because nothing sticks. Learned it from a guy at Perry State Forest in Ohio. The worst, smelliest, stickiest mud in the world and his machine seemed to just have mud fall off it.

I use a craftsman also. I bought a fan tip for it. I also pull out the car ramps and drive on them, so I can get the belly. For the delicate parts and cv joints I use a garden hose and a soft tire brush. I spray the cv boots with spray wax for snowboards/ski's when I am done and they are still damp. For all the little hard to get nooks and crannies I have an old electric toothbrush. The motor gets a light hit with the small brass wire brush for the hard to remove crap.
