When I first read the title I thought it said doomsday peppers. Being someone who likes good hot peppers I had to check it out.
Doomsday preppers? no need, i've got other plans

I caught a few episodes last night. I don't know. It seemed a bit cheesy, at least some of the people. For example one lady was talking about OpSec (Operational Security), unno don't tell people you have stuff and become a target. She's on national television telling people she has stuff. Almost like she didn't really understand what she was saying. She even mentioned her last name. A few other people had so much stuff stored at their house that if they ever had to leave they'd be screwed, you can only carry so much, the money spent on stockpiling all that stuff could have been used wiser. There was only 1 guy that seemed to have a good plan and location and supplies but it seemed like he had lots of money for what he built as a shelter etc. I'd also like to point out stockpiling guns and ammo, which lots of people tend to do, at the cost of food, water, supplies is retarded. In a real event your priority should be laying low and evading not throwing down cover fire.

Yeah man I agree with you. I was excited to see it but these people were pretty extreme! it did have a good entertainment factor and I did learn a couple things. I caught the OpSec thing too and the lady who had food trucks delivered at night not to draw attention. Duh, you and your house are on TV now! I'm assuming you're talking about the guy with the underground bunker??? Would only assume you'd have to be loaded to invest in something like that. Stockpiling ammo and guns, no. But having them for defense is definately a good idea. I know what I would do if my kids were starving so I would imagine others would do the same. But, don't come do it at my house, I will throw down some lead!

I have some goodies but nothing major. I do have some skills though like farming, and small animal husbandry. I also spent 5 years in the Canadian army so yea I can lay down the lead too if I have to. I've recently started back into archery. I figure if I have to gather food, I can use the bow, and keep the guns for if I really need them.

I haven't seen the show...but here are my thoughts.
I'm cool with the idea of stocking up incase we have a freak snowstorm, and trucks can't deliver, we become buried in snow at the house, the shops close, and nobody can move for a few days, having basic food and blankets, etc to stay warm in case the power goes out....that type of thing. Enough to get by for a week or two.
From what I've seen on the show though, I have no intention of prepping for anything hardcore. I won't let that consume my life, and quite honestly, there's not point in surviving if everyone else around you dies. I'd rather just die too. I don't want to live through a major disaster like they prepare for on the previews for the show.
Thats just me.

Hey if an asteroid hits Earth, it won't matter how many bullets you have saved up.
Enjoy life while you still can.

I have had a survival kit in place for many years now...Not to much food tho as I am a hunter/fisherman and my family has a large farm...So we are all capable of producing our own food supply...we do that anyway...We also have a large fuel supply on the farm both gasoline and Diesel..I can't live with out my ATV....I also have a stock pile of ammo..the trick for me to save ammo is, I buy in bulk deer slugs and bird shot because I dont go threw it that much when not in season and I prefer to use my EXcal X-bow for deer anyway. I also have a lot of carbon arrows because if you are a good shot you get your arrow back and the X-bow will produce food for a long time...worst case scenario you can whittle your own arrow and make you own broad heads...crude but as long as it kills food.
I will say to all the nay sayers that when shit hits the fan and you have no idea what to do and are without the proper knowledge, tools, weapons and supplies you will fall victim to the many atrocities that happen in a disaster situation.
The group of guys I chill/hunt with that are survivalists call it the "ZOMPOCALYPSE" not doomsday to make a joke but there is a real underlying point....Were not those wackos from TV....Just outdoors man and farmers that already know how to live basic and off the land we have.
What ever catastrophe may occur we are ready!
And in regards to having allot of munitions, It is more for protecting our land from thieves and harvesting our own food.

If it comes to staying off the paved roads, the ATV is the way to go!
