Enclosed trailers

I know we have a post for quad haulers. What I am looking at, and dreaming at this point is a enclosed trailer to haul two sportsman's and when I get to the campground unload the bikes and use the trailer as a camper. Plus if I have to stop, knowing that they are locked and out of site would give me piece of mind. I am not as trusting as some.
What I was looking at was a 7 x 14 with a v nose. At this size it would come with tandem axles and brakes.
Any thoughts, pictures...if you have one is there anything you would have done if you had to do it allover again.

Thanks

Ken

Great idea. I was looking at the 7 X 14s but could not find one used and new was not in my budget. I found a used 8.5 X 12 covered (clamshell style) snowmobile trailer in great shape for a good price and bought it. I really like it for hauling my quad and ice-fishing gear (portable shanty); or two quads. It works great. I do not use tilt feature, instead I have a couple of ramps set up to load and unload. Moved the axle 10" to rear to get a little more weight forward and I have a lot of storage room up front (in front of the loaded wheelers) for other gear. It's totally lockable and I use it as an ATV garage while in the driveway at home.

I thought of using it to store them in too, it would give me half of my garage back!
I saw one for sale for 3500, a 7x16 but from what i found out today talking to a local salesman the ones from Lowes have floor braces on 24 inch centers and the wall materrial is luaun where the ones that he sells has uprades. 16 inch centers on the floor and 3/8 plywood on the walls, plus a few more upgrades, and he is cheaper. $4400. I am going to look for a used one first and when the time comes to pull the trigger or write the check then I will see what i have come up with.
I really want one with a v nose on it, to cut down on the wind drag and to give me a little more room, then i could go with the 14 footer.

I was originally going to get a aluminum flat bed trail. A Alumina A888 or A812. But would like to be able to secure stuff when its left unatended.

I have been researching this for a couple months. A lot of people have converted their Cargo (enclosed) trailer into a Toy Hauler. That is what I am looking to do. There are also some Pace America Trailers out there called Sports / Camper trailer that have cabinets and bathroom but it looks just like a Cargo Trailer. The set up and take down of a tent is a pain and gets old after a while. Has anyone else done this conversion?

Trailers and Quads

Well, I need to update my post. I just measured my 2010 550 EFI and after the installation of the ATV Guru Brush Guards - it measures 7' 6". It would be a tough fit to get two of those into 14'. If you want tandem loading, you might want to consider 16' in a trailer. Boy was I surprised at what I read on the ruler.

I did consider that but with the 14 footer you would have to have a v nose on it, Also would make it cut the wind better.

I forgot about the v-nose - there would be room enough given the extra space in the "V". I figure the slope on the front my trailer is pretty good at "cutting" air. I towed it, loaded, last weekend for about 400 miles - towed pretty well behind my Silverado. My milage was down 2mpg with the trailer in tow. Not too bad.

I have a Pace 7x14 V-nose. A caution about measurements...go to their website and downlaod their plans to see exact dimensions. The "14" is really not 14 but the V-nose is huge. Anyhow, I custom ordered mine w/ dual 3500 torflexs, no wheel wells, alum wheels w/ radials, full sized spare in floor, heavy duty ramp, LED lighting, dual e-track welded to frame, two windows, extra 12" height (i'm tall), white vinyl walls & ceiling, pre wired for AC. I have since added quite a bit...power station and RV hook-ups, power station, deep cycle battery, more lights, winch, power nose jack, 12v flip-down TV w/ a radio/CD/DVD player and four speakers. I also added some aluminum storage...5 gal jug (1 bag ice + water = enough for a weekend), helmet rack, a cabinet and a microwave (110v). I use a cooler or 12v fridge depending on how long I camp and where for power. I've done a few other smaller items like paint the floor w/ that sand/grip stuff in it and added a flag holder to fly the red, white and blue... Over the windows I have vinyl curtains that work great. I'll send some pics when I get home if anyone is interested. All told, empty weight of approximately 4,000 lbs in it's current config. have enough capacity for two large ATVs weight wise but would be a tight fit unless one was rotated 90 degrees which I've seen done many times w/ a ATV jack on casters.

If anything, and you're in the market, the V-nose and torflex axles are absolute musts...make it very stable. I have an Expedition EL and get a little over 9 mpg pulling this set up loaded.

OK, I have not posted pics and it looks like I'd have to make them small. Where does everyone save their pics on the web to link back to in posts? BTW, I'm not getting any sleep tonight...off to pick up my new 850 EPS tomorrow!
