Ever come across an emergency situation on the trail ?.

The tittle says it all, ever come across any emergency situations while riding ?. Back in august of this year i was getting ready to go riding, as i was gassing up and getting ready to leave it started to rain, it was one of those mid summer rain storms that lasted all of ten minutes and its gone, there was no lightening or anything at my house, just rain. So i left for my ride, heading for the trails. The first half of the ride was real nice, riding through the forest just enjoying the day. When i turned onto the last trail i ride on things were still going good until i got half way through the trail, i come around this one turn and there is smoke and a fire under two pine trees, i guess when the rain storm passed over the mountain there was a lightening strike. I jump off the ATV and start doing what i can to get the fire out, i carry some bottled water on rides so i used that and my feet to stomp the fire out. Im just glad i decided to go for a ride that day, if not that fire could have turned into a major forest fire because not many people use that trail and it would have been a large fire before it was noticed.

So lets hear what you have run into on your rides.

Been riding for over 30 years now. With that much seat time, your bound to run into some sort of emergency...

Back in the 90's we were hunting the first day of deer season. When we were entering the woods, we heard a guy yelling for help off in the distance. When we got to him, we found that he had fallen out of a tree stand and broke both his legs (bad). We slowed down the bleeding, and my son drove his little Sherman tank (300 King Quad) through the woods to get to the guy. We managed to load him on the quad and got him to the main road, called for an ambulance, and off he went.

It kind of ruined the first day of deer season for us, but might have saved the guys life. Every year, right before deer season, he calls both my son and I and thanks us. Makes us both feel good.

Other than that, we've run into some minor emergencies, but nothing of that magnitude.

You probably saved that guys life, there`s no way he would have made it out by him self.

Im sure others have some stories, lets hear what you have run into on the trail.

Saw somebody have a close call earlier this year. Riding with a group of people I met on the trail and one of them didn't have much experience. He didn't shift his body weight going up a steep incline and flipped over backwards. Luckily he managed to kick the atv away before it landed on him. He was pretty banged and bruised from landing on some big rocks, but was otherwise ok.

Wife snapped her arm about 5 miles out in the desert a couple months ago. Kinda flopping around, no way she could ride back.

Seen bad wrecks, had a few myself.

Yep, I was the emergency. About 3 miles from camp I hit some deep ruts in the trail and got tossed. When I hit the ruts the front end jumped and the handle bars broke my right wrist. Luckily I was riding with 2 guys and a kid. I was incapable of controlling a quad on my own since I could no longer move any of my fingers on my right hand. My left wrist was also sprained at the same time. Luckily the kid that was with us had a much lighter 2wd quad that I was able to steer well enough my left hand. So I let the kid ride my X2 back (He was happy to because it's much nicer than what he was riding) and I just got towed on his quad behind his dad.

My Helmet saved my life in that accident. I landed head first going 50 mph when I got thrown off. Cracked the visor off and bit one of my lips.

Other than the broken wrist, a bloody lip, and a few bruises and weeks of begin sore I was uninjured. I learned the hard way that I need to slow way down when I'm riding unfamiliar trails.

haha, came across a group where one guy was soooo drunk he lost control on a curve, went into a ravine, flipped the quad, and slid belly down across a prickly pear cactus. He was up and sitting when we pulled up, and didn't want anyone to call for help, probably a mixture of alcohol and shock said he wasn't in too much pain. They finally got his quad running and out of the ravine and away they went. I'm sure someone had a BIG job pulling all those cactus needles out of him!

These are crazy, I have one that just happened recently... I came home for an R n R at the end of october till the end of November and I had told all 2 of my buddies that I wanted to go riding while I was home..they said, "well thats good cause were going to coal creek TN for our annual ride." I was excited for 2 reasons: 1 I have always missed the coal creek trip and 2 it was an excuse to get my new 850...well, at my friend Adams halloween party, he tells me, "hey I have a friend that may be interested in your 550 XP (2009 Excellent condition paid 7000 maybe 50 hrs!!)" Anyway I talked to the guy and I told him that since he was a friend of Adams I would give him a killer deal on mine, cause I was going down to get my new one...I told him I would give it to him for 4500 FIRM. We eventually came to an agreement that he would buy it IF I threw in the new set of tires and wheels off my new one (I had new tires anyway to put on the 850 and rims so what the hell), so I told him deal. HE buys it and I go down get my new one and we all meet at adams house so I can give him his set of tires and wheels. We get to talking and I tell him, "you know man I gave you a hell of a deal" and he agree's and tells me thank you and we proceed to talk about riding styles and our upcoming coal creek trip, and I knew this guy was gonna be the crazy guy of the bunch so i pleaded to him not to hurt this 4 wheeler!!!..2 weekends later we all convoy up there, all 9 of us I think, and we finally get there, THE BIG coal creek trip Finally!!! Well we do some riding and come back to the campers to eat a little food and then go on our big night ride!! hah. Well about 1 hour into the trip this guy is acting like a complete ass on the trails sliding the back end around, now keep in mind coal creek isnt the place to do this, especially on the entrance trail!!!!! Well me and my girl are riding mine and the 550 is in front of us, and we were both admiring how nice of a four wheeler it was, and in exact words I said this "babe this guy is gonna F this thing up by the end of this trip, you watch" and not 1 minute later ON THE ENTRANCE TRAIL , havent hit the "trails" yet, he slides the ass end around and BAM hit a rock and there it goes end over end over end, He was slinging it around on a pretty straight trail and at that exact moment we hit a little down grade and a few rocks, well his tire caught one of those rocks and flipped him over 5 times, I was like "no damn way" I just knew it, he hurt himself pretty bad but he was more pissed that he just did that to the 4 wheeler. we flipped it back over and said its not so bad!!!! haha the handle bars were bent way down the head lamp shattered and smushed.bent the hell out of the front rack, then he put it in reverse so we could get it back to straighten everything out, and then the back end crumbled!! he broke everything on the left side including the A arm. The guy was in some pain, maybe a sprained shoulder and some bruised ribs, and a hurt ego...it took us 2 hours and 3 people balancing that thing all the way back to camp..Well to make the story a little more funny, once the gravel trail we were on hit pavement, have you ever heard of the walk of shame?? Well this is kinda like that everyone at the campsites could look up on the road and see 3 guys balancing a 3 wheeled 550 xp all the way to were we parked it at the camper...I had to leave back for AFGHAN the next day so im not sure of the condition of him nor his atv..but if I can say anything, dont ride like an ass cause it will ruin everyones ride!!!! There is always a time and place!!! sorry this was so long....

Its to bad that he ruined a nice ATV, but i don`t feel sorry for him. He was acting like a jerk and showing off and it all came back and bit him on the ass. It seems like there is at least one person like that in every group that ends up ruining a ride for everyone else.
