front shock height.............
Just out of curiosity, how far down does the shock sit in the strut tower on a 05 Sp 800?Does it in any way change the ride height in the front by raising the depth of the shock in the tower?

I don't know that I completely understand your question. What are you trying to do?
If your thinking of not fully seating the strut, I would advise against this. The housing is designed to retain enough of the strut while being strong enough to remain safe. Besides the strut is there for rebound and dampening. It's not there to lift or change or provide ride height. It's the length it is, to work with the springs height and remaining suspension components.
HD springs are available to fix sagging stockers. Lift kits may also do what you want.

Hey CW,thanks for responding,I think you answered my question...so the shock needs to be completely seated and bottomed out in the strut tower?I was just wondering if the shock is completely bottomed out in the strut tower or there is a certain height exposed of the shock?Im not trying to raise or beef up the front suspension, just wondering how much of the shock is supposed to seat in the strut tower, thanks

Upon inspection,it is known that the shock should bottom out in the strut tower for install.

strut cartridge
the MacPherson strut should be inserted completely in the housing or you could bottom the strut and damage it or over extend your suspension and break a cv.

I think it really depends of the usage about the height using a stock shock there is a very limited adjustment.
