UH OH!! Pulled CV out of Hub...

Ok im installing my 2" highlifter lift and pull the cv axel out of the hub. Now is it ok for me to just line it up and stab it back in without pulling it all apart???
I did not tear the boot. This is on a 2002 500ho.
Thanks for any and all input...

When that happened to me I had to remove the boot since the bearings flipped over inside the boot. I tried for about 15 minutes to get it aligned and flipped again but decided to remove the boot clamp once I did I Could see what the problem was right away aligned it and put the boot back on. Should have done it that way from the start.
This is all based on if I understood your problem correctly.

You have to take the large end of the boot loose to get it lined up and back together.

taking off the boot and replacing the clips costs much less than replacing the CV. lesson learned the hard way i suppose - it happens to me sometimes too.

Cool

Oh man, I've got the same issue. Instead of new springs I put the pre-load adjusters from Moose under the springs on my ATP to help with the usual plow sag in the front end. When I tipped the struts out to pull the springs out the axles pulled out of the strut end and I can't get everything lined up and back together. I was afraid that I had to open up the boot but it sounds like that's the only way to get everything lined up and back together.

Where's a good source to get replacement clamps and the pliers? It won't be the last time I have to do CV boots so I may as well buy a set of the special pliers to do the clamps.

I just put on HD springs. I was as careful as I could be, but I am still nervous it I pulled the strut out to far. I jacked it up high, but made sure the side I was working on never had the tire lift off the ground. I only pulled it far enough away to work the spring out.

How did you guys know you pulled out to far? Did the axle just fall out? Mine is all buttoned back up. Wheels spin fine, although I can hear my brakes scraping my rotors a little. My axles have about a 1/4" play if you tug them to and from the tire, no play up and down. I went for a ride around the yard for a minute and seems fine, I floored it in the snow to try and get the AWD to engage to see if I could hear any noises. The thing has less than 20 hours so it is so damn squeaky you can't hear shit.
