Steering Problems
On two or three occasions my 04 Sportsman 500 has taken an unexpected hard right or left while riding straight, difficult to steer forward until it breaks loose; the rest of the time the steering has been okay.

Have you cheked your front brakes? It could happen if one side or the other is locking... my 2 cents.

Brakes could be binding on one wheel but most likely one of the front axles is engaging onto 4 wheel drive.

it sounds to me like a axle or hub. i have had the cv joints do that before they get ready to let loose.

Sounds like the Hillard clutches engaging on one wheel inadvertantly. Change hub oil.

Change oil in the hubs and see if that helps. You likely have problems with one of the hilliards in the hub not disengaging correctly. Get all 4's off the ground. Turn the 4x4 on and run it then turn it off and run it. One of them probably won't disengage while the other will. Changing oil might make it better or you may have to go into it. Those models with hilliards in the hubs can be finicky but are not that hard to fix.
