Brake pads and rotors shot after 10hrs???

Any one ever heard of brake pads and rotors shot after 10 hrs on a bike?...my buddy's 850 bought the same day brought to service the same day, He also has to replace his brake pads at 22 hrs...

my cost $230
his cost $110

Is this common to go threw brake pads this quick?

And Polaris assumes no financial responsibility AT ALL(nice warranty)

The dealer said he called them to get some money for the repair(since its only 10 hrs old) and they refused.."said it was a disposable part" I thought I had a 6 month warranty against defects...

Brake pads and rotors are not covered by warranty but with 10 hrs there must be some kind of problems.

[QUOTE=Diesel man 03;94049]Brake pads and rotors are not covered by warranty but with 10 hrs there must be some kind of problems.[/QUOATE}

That is exactly my grievance, for a bikes brake pads to wear out and then damage the rotor all within 10 hrs...I would think there was something wrong right from the get go..and the dealer agreed with me but Polaris shut'em down..my problem not there's.

I understand the warranty doesn't cover pads and rotors, If this happened a couple months in..I wouldn't think twice about it..its just the fact that it happened so soon and on 2 separate bikes from the same dealer.. such low hrs and usage.

Something is not right. For one thing, with engine braking and active decent, I hardly use my breaks on my 850. But even so these things are engineered to last for thougsnds of miles. Even with abusive riding I can't see going through stuff this fast. The 850 is so powerful that one might not notice if the breaks are dragging. Something is just not right. JB

break pads wearing quickly

I took my 550 apart for another reason and found that all three sets of pads were completely gone, about 400 miles on the bike. I have been riding with Active Decent turned off, in the future I will try to leave it on and see if the wear improves.

I have also noticed that with this particular break design that the pads are free floating and always touching the rotor. I am not a break specialist by any means but I think that would lend itself to greater wear. I will research and see if there are any after market breaks for my 550 with better wear characteristics.

It is possible to have brake drag by over filling the master cylinder reservoir, brake fluid heats up and expands if reservoir is full pressure will cause brakes to drag. Also muddy conditions can wear pads out faster, if you are driving in mud a lot I would look for aftermarket pads and maybe solid rotors made for mud conditions. As for riding with ADC on all the time I understand this cause the friction material in ADC to wear out in a short time.
