please help!!!...rotors/disk brakes
as a newbie, this may sound dumb or its really a problem...just got home from riding and i am in the process of cleaning my bike..I noticed that there is no rotor on the rear left tire..???is this correct...the other 3 wheels have rotors..this is a quote from the specs of my bike... "Front/Rear Brakes: Single Lever 4-Wheel Hydraulic Disc with Hydraulic Rear Foot Brake
Parking Brake: Park in Transmission/Lockable Hand Lever"
can some please explain to me b4 i ride again tomorrow..if this is correct..The way i take that is that there are 4 disc brakes....does that mean that there would be 4 rotors????...because i only have 3....and maybe this is the coz of my front brakes needing replacement at 10 hrs...

IIRC the 850 is the only model with a brake at each wheel... All the rest only have three. In an effort to better protect the brakes they put it inside the one wheel.
Your just fine...
If your brakes are worn out after ten hours...your going too slow or not riding enough... Remember brakes are for stopping.

sorry cw...im not quite sure i understand...so on my fourth wheel the rear left...the brake is in the wheel??....because theres no steel brake line running to that wheel/no rotor/no pads/nothing that i can see would act as a brake.like the right wheel......and what your saying is I only have three brakes not four?????why does it say in the specs for 550..that you have..... Front/Rear Brakes: Single Lever 4-Wheel Hydraulic Disc with Hydraulic Rear Foot Brake
Parking Brake: Park in Transmission/Lockable Hand Lever
hence the 4 wheel hydraulic disk...i only see 3...im sorry i juss dont get it..and all my gear head friends are gone for the weekend......thanks cw

That's correct, you only have three and that's the way it was built and designed.
Think on older different make quads... almost 100% had only three brakes. Two front and one rear. The independent rear and "car like" feel and design of the Sportsman is throwing you.
Your rear axle is locked, one side is identical in rotation to the other, so one brake will equally stop both rear tires.

i have a 2010 850 only 3 brakes the only xp model 550 or 850 that will have 4 are the ones built in 2009 after 2009 they decided that one was enough apparently in my honest opinion i think its plenty i usually my engine braking to my advantage and let of the throttle coast into the corner then throttle it again and when i do use my brakes i use the hand brakes just what im used to i guess. the way i look at it is if you hit your back brakes they lock up pretty much it seems like because of your rear diff. i think it is very possible to add a 4th rotor to your xp if you want it but id try looking for stronger brake pads maybe? there reletivly cheap there just a pain in the ass to put back in.

Skizmo Your model should have EBS The greatest thing about EBS is it brakes for you! Just by letting off the throttle. I use my brakes only to let riders behind me know im slowing. Usually just "taps" to light my brakelight. I was concerned when i realized my machine only had brakes on 3 wheels. Now i never even use em. Parking brake when im parked, taps to let the riders behind know and thats about it.

i will say yesterday when i was pulling in the driveway off a gravel road..i wanted to see what would happen if i just stepped on the foot brake...and the rear tires did lock up and i just skidded to a stop..bout 20-30 feet....it felt like on the old peddle bikes when i was a kid when you just cranked back on your pedals and you would do those wicked skids....lol
