Left side break hanging up

We just bought this 99 Sportsman 500. The only problem I'm having is that sometimes it pulls to the left. If you grab the brake and release it, it frees up. Does it in forward and reverse, in 2wd and 4wd.

I pulled the left front wheel to check it out and noticed that the pads were pretty loose, They still have a good amount of pad left on them but had a bit of play. Any thoughts? Also what is this allen bolt in the top of the caliper for? I pulled it out trying to get the pads out but don't think I needed to. Is it an adjustment of some type to take play out of the pads?

This machine also has the type hub with fluid in it, totally new concept to me. Everything seems to be working correctly on it though. We jacked it up to see, in AWD, all 4 wheels turn, when you stop, you can manually turn the front wheels forward, but not in reverse. When you kick it out of AWD, the front wheels become free spinning. I've drained the oil out of the left side and am going to service it per the manual, fill with fluid and let drain with hole at 4o'clock position. Anything else I should know about these?

Thanks for the help!

yes , after you put caliper back on and squeeze brake lever a couple times , turn alllen head in till pads start touching rotors, the pulling could be caused by the hubs not disengagin, does it only do it in awd or when you just take it out of awd?see if it gets better after you change the oil, I fill them to three oclock , a little extera wont hurt, if it does it, try stoppin and backing up a few feet,if it continues probably need to replace armature plate in hub, they get magnetized from years of use and dont want to disengage

I adjusted the front brakes and changed the hub fluid. It pulled one time as I backed it out of the garage and thats been it. We put about 50 miles on it this weekend, in and out of AWD with no issues, so hopefully it's all good now. The pads were pretty loose on the rotor, and the hub oil was black, I don't think they had ever been serviced in 5K miles. The guy we bought it from only used it in 2wd to run his dog on blm dirt roads. Thanks for the reply Russ!

I have the same issue on my 2002 sportsman 500. Left side will randomly engage into AWD and yank the steering. Sometimes the front will not disengage at all. I'll try changing the hub oil. I see you just removed the cover to drain. How do you refill with new fluid?

Thanks

No, you don't need to remove the cover. There is a drain plug with an allen head bolt. Fill the hub there at the 3 o'clock position.
