sportsman 300 front and rear brakes from hand lever????

Isn't the rear brakes supped to be applied with the hand brake? I watched my son lock his brakes on gravel and only the front locked shouldn't the rear be locking to? the rears do work from the foot brake. any ideas? its a 2008 sportsman 300. thanks in advance.

I think the hand lever is supposed to apply about 60% front and 40% rear. To lock all 4's you have to apply the lever and the pedal at the same time.

Polman's right. The front rotors are larger than the rear and you've got two of them. Front you have two large rotors stopping two smaller tires and in the rear you've got one smaller rotor trying to stop two large tires. Rears locking up would mean a loss of control.

they didnt even appear to be slowing at all I would think they would have slowed some. I guess I will have to jack it up and see what happens.
