Sportsman 500 Brake questions
Recently purchased a 05 Sportsman 500 HO. Have done brakes on cars but ATVs are new to me. Pulled the wheels to check the brakes. All pads look like they have about 1/4 left on the pads. What is the minimum on ATV brake pads. Also, can hand turn the rotor but it is pretty tight. Is this the way the calipers should be?
A newbie says thanks!

Well dude...if their that low then replace them....rotors are going to be tight remeber your turning axles too...normal for the calibers...unless your having a pulling problem when you brake....Muddie49

Buy a new set of pads then bleed your system, make sure that the rotors are still usable.

On most models the service limit is 0.150" including the steel backing plate. New they are 0.275".

Yeah a qtr inch of pad is still pretty decent these pads typically are about .30 -.35 of a inch. Keep an eye on them as they can wear quickly in mud and water. If you need pads check out our site ATV and Motorcycle - brakes or brake pads - Race Driven
