1997 xplorer rear brake rotor noise

I have a 97 xplorer and the rear floating rotor make a racket when driving due to if flopping around at the bottom below the caliper. I installed new brake pads and adjusted the caliper but the rotor still has play and still makes noise but not as bad. Any suggestions???

I'd ride it alittle not beatening on it...the pads might seat better as they warm up and quiet the rotor down....if not replace the rotor...Muddie49

I seriously was going to post something on this too! I have the same wheeler and the same problem. Mine makes a bunch of racket when riding too. I looked at it again tonight and i can't seem to find a way to fix it.

Friend of mine has same ATV and his is quiet. Rotor can't be fixed because caliper is single piston and fixed. Rotor has to float. Is it possible your rotors aren't flat? If the pads are adjusted close enough to the rotor, the rotor shouldn't be noisy.

I will have to look at it more. I don't think there is a way to tighten em up anymore. The pads are still good.

the brake rotor or the rotor shaft is worn out,i've had to replace one or the other or both at one time or another for customers.always full floating causes wear and play on the shaft and rotor.

They are tightened up using the bolt and locknut where the footbrake lever attaches to the caliper.

Anyone have a part # for that rear rotor? I can find the fronts but no rears. Also does anyone else make an aftermarket one? Even don wood polaris wants $48 each for the fronts.

You haven't said which explorer you have. For the 300 and 400 it's 1910177 and for the 500 it's 1910188
