Emergency brakes locked in!

I have a 2008 Ranger XP 4x4. I am in the process of moving so I was in my garage moving my ranger around. I released my emergency brake and rolled it out of the way to get into my cabinets. When I went to go and drive it, I noticed that my brakes are locked in and showing engaged on the instrument panel. I released the emergency brake and they are engaged. The emergency light will go off when I step on the brake pedal. I haven't had time to go through it due to moving, so I am trying for advice since my time is limited right now! Any ideas? I do notice that e-brake handle doesn't have that same feel when I go to engage it. It seems kind of loose

I suspect the cable has gotten moisture in it and rusted. You can probably get it loose and lube it and get it working. It's never a good idea to leave the park brake on while it sits for long periods especially after being in water or after being washed.

Not sure if a Ranger has a cable or hydraulic but nonetheless the parking brake should not be on for extended periods, being that the cable or hydraulics will want to set up on you.

Thanks all for the advice!!! Finally got in there to take a look and was able to disconnect and clean it up! It did have some moisture in there. Got it all cleaned up and the brake light on the panel finally cleared. Now Im ready to go hunting in couple of weeks!!! Thanks guys!!
