XP balljoints

When do I need to replace these? I know that the new oems are longer than what came on the 2010 and before...I will get all balls brand because I'm sponsored by them and can get them much cheaper...but how do I know if they are bad? And when I changed a rear a arm the other day there was so much play in the bushing..it was obvious that the bushings are bad but if I get new bushings will they be shot after a few rides? Was there a recall on ball joints?

Yes there was a recall on the ball joints for all 2009 and 2/3rds of 2010 XP's.
They re-designed the ball joint, made the stem slightly longer and used a stronger bolt on the clamp. Mine didnt go bad(loose) until over 2000 miles, and my dealer replaced them free under the recall. Polaris initially said my mfg date & VIN were just outside the recall batch, but my dealer convinced them that I had the old style ball joints and they were bad.
