1999 sportsman in 4wd backing up and snap

I have a 1999 sportsman 500 with 1225 hours. My dad was backing it up into his pickup and he heard a snap and it pulled to the right. He took it out of 4X and it goes forward fine but pulls to the right. He was afraid to mess something up so he didn't try continuing in R 4X. Sez it feels like maybe something binding up? Any ideas???

sounds like right rear axle broke.

Get all 4's off the ground and run it. Sounds like something happened to the right front Hilliard in the hub or the axle end...let us know what you find and we'll try to help.
