Why are my new brakes squeaking

I put new rear pads on my 08 sportsman 500 efi and the dam things wont stop squeaking. Why would they do this? Will they break in? I put on over 60 miles with them already. Do i need to put some kind of noise supressor on the pads?

I put new pads on my 01 and they still squeek even after 400 miles. I've tried cleaning with brake clean and running the rear brake when i'm moving to "break them in". nothing seems to work for me. Haven't tried the no squeek stuff you get on car brakes maybe that will work.

are they OEM pads or aftermarket? the material of the pad alone can make them squeal

depending on the quality of the pad, yes. there are different materials the pads can be made from, and the "harder" pads will always give you that "metal on metal" squeal. you aftermarket pads are probably a different material then OEM and are now squealing on the rotors

Yea the same is true for most car brakes also. The price you pay for the longer lasting pads is a harder surface of the pad itself which can cause the noise mentioned. Several other things that you may hear are grinding and scraching. If the noise has not gone away by 60-100 miles of braking, then it probably will not. Sometime after a ride in sand i noticed that my tend to make a little noise and can be taken care of with a little washing. Did you replace the brakes yourself? If not next time you have your wheel off, check the rotors to make sure nothing is wrong with them.

I would coat the back of the pad (piston side) with some anti squeal compound used on automotive brakes. That should take care of the squeal. As stated full or semi metallic pads will make more noise due to harder pad surface.

Thats what I get for buying $15. e bay pads. The Polaris dealer wanted $65. I think I made the wrong choice, you get what you pay for. The squeak has got to go. Thanks for the help.
