I just bought a new 2017 Sportsman 850SP, and was wondering what size tire I can put on here to replace the stock ones?
I was looking at ITP Mudlite XTR's or something similar. I am looking for a good trail tire and also a good mud tire. Found good reviews on the XTR's. Anyway, it has 26x8-14 on the front now & 26x10-14 on the rear. So what can I go up to without problems? Because the XTR doesn't even come in those sizes. Any help on tire sizes I can work with would be appreciated. Thank you!
What about width, etc?? The XTR's only come in as high as:
27x9R-14
27x11R-14
Will those fit on mine?? If I go with a different tire, what size width will mine accept? I'm keeping the stock rims, I actually like them. If up to 28's will fit, what about the width?? Thanks
Anything from 26"-28" in diameter and 9" wide up front and 11"-12" in the rear will fit the bill.
Itp xtrs are a good choice and here are some others to look at: itp black water evolutions; maxxis bighorn, bighorn 2.0, and zilla's; pitbull rockers, growler, and gb2.5; STI black diamond xtr and roctane; GBC grim reaper; Kenda bear claw HTR.
I had Pro Armour Sixr wheels and 27" Pro Armour Daggers...they look amazing and are 8 ply radials. They ride a little rough under 10 mph but have amazing traction in mud.
Picking the height of the tire is up to you, depending how much power are you willing to lose unless you get a clutch kit. The weight of a tire really kills the performance even more than the height.
My machine is a general purpose trail machine and I try to avoid all the thick, nasty mud pits. So I didn't want to lose any power or have any rubbing issuses so I stayed with the stock 26" size and I still added a QSC clutch kit. Try not to get into a tire over 30 or 32lbs as you will feel the weight. The least amount of weight, the better!
Ya but everyone knows the 1000 has way too much power so you need to put big heavy tires on it to detune it so you don't get hurt (sarcasm off):grin mines just a toy,I'm sure I went over board on my tires but I like the look and the aggressive looking tire, little bumpy on pavement going slow but after 10mph smooths out just fine.
How wide of a tire can u go in the front since the front rims aren't as wide as the back rims I want to go lil wider in front but I like the factory rims so il leave them on if I do go any taller it would be 28 inch or less
yea that's why I was thinking about getting wider rim in front going same width all around it looks a lot better and probably wouldn't even notice it with power steering.
No spacers needed if you use the stock wheels.
I have 28" Kenda bearclaws on mine with stock wheels and no issues at all.
Fronts are 28 x 9 x 14
Rears are 28 x 11 x 14
Like the man said if you keep the fronts at 9" and the rears 12" or less you are good to go.
