Speedomter not working

I bought my 2000 425 Expedition from a friend, and the speedometer was not working. The hours meter is working, so I am wondering if these two functions are connected in any way electronically? Anyone have trouble with their speedometer and figure out the problem?? I know it is electronic, so there must be a way to test to see if it is getting current. I am not a mechanic, so if you have a suggestion, please explain so a dummy like me can understand. Thanks!!

It could be a bad speedometer. Check the connections on the bottom to make sure the are seated and tight. I'm guessing that your machine uses a Hall sensor. If so it could be that. Check out these threads.
