Lock & Ride Rear Cargo Box

Hi, I am considering buying the rear cargo box but have a couple of concerns. Here is the model I am considering: http://www.purepolaris.com/en-us/ATV...Family%7eValue

My concerns are: 1) will it overlap the seat so I have to take the box off to get the seat off? and 2) is it worth the price? $200 seems like a lot for one of these even though it is not that far out of line with others I've looked at. and 3) do any of you have one of these mounted with a rear rack extender also mounted? The pics in the accessory catalog shows a 500 with a rack extender and a cargo box... can't tell if they are compatible.

My atv is a 2012 Sportsman 500HO.

I want to be able to store hunting gear in there, tree stand parts & tools but also have it double as a chain saw carrier... my saw has a 20" bar and this box would work.
Or would one of these Kolpin expanded metal gear boxes be a better choice?

Thanks.

L&R box

thats looks like the one I got except mine has a padded back rest. I have a 2010 800 and have to move it to lift the seat, It is not water tight, Make sure the lock and ride attachments are tight as it will ruin the rear rack be rubbing

I have the same one for my 800 2011. Like said above, just make sure everything is nice and tight on and off the bike. 200 is worth every penny for all the storage you get and the backrest is around 100 more...getting that next month.

Thanks for the feedback guys... I'm surprised it's not water tight? Does that mean rain gets in or stream & standing water when you ride through it?

Mines on an XP but it looks like the same box. I've never had any problem with any dust or water getting in. Its got a rubber gasket around the top to help seal it. I wouldn't submerge it, but otherwise its weather tight. It also fits around the extender and clears the seat with no problem.

Its the BEST choice in boxes! I wish they made a two up design!!!

I have the Sportsmans box with the side bags and back rest. Its well made, waterproof and durable!

YES you need to remove it to get the seat off. BUT I like that as it also keems the seat in position while trailering with out worry. (Dont even tell me you done strap your seat down! Its rough riding without it!!)

I NEVER had a lick of water get in. Thats in reg use, rain, slpashing water, riding in rain, riding in heavy rain and even trailering 500 miles in down pours at 70 mph.

I highly recomend it!

CW... thanks for the tip. No... in 14yrs I have never strapped my seat down... but I have never trailered it on super highways... just local 2 lane roads with speeds between 20 and 40mph... if I( take it out on a super highway I'll keep your tip in mind... thanks.

Without the backrest my seat comes off without removing the box. A little birdy told me santa is bringing me the backrest for Christmas so I guess I'll be removing the box now too to get under there It onlt takes about 10 seconds so I am not worried about it. I've also never read about the latches opening while riding either which I have seen with some of the kolpins. My friend has their cooler one on his king quad and he has to rachet strap down so it doesn't open while riding. Plus the fit is seemless with the polaris one, it doesn't sit any higher than the pod so it doesn't affect the profile of the machine either IMO.
