2002 Sportsman 700..

I just bought a sportsman 700 with 1400 miles on it. It's in really nice shape. Lots of extra's as well. I am having a little trouble keeping it running. First thing I noticed is there was no coolant in the tank, the battery was pretty low and the gas is probably worthless.. Anything else to check.. Maybe replace the plugs?

Well I went through the machine today. Topped off the coolant, added air to tires, charged the battery, filled it with fresh gas and removed the Quadrax rear seat and foot pegs and took it for a little ride, (18F degrees here today).. drove nice, not bad for 2 grand..

Sounds like a good find. I will always recommend changing plugs, coolant, oil, fuel filter, gearcase lube and diff lubes as well as checking the belt. A good once over let's you get to know your new machine and sets a baseline for when you need your subsequent maintenance checks. But them I'm kinda neurotic about the maintenance stuff. Either way play safe, have fun, and welcome to the board.

That's an 02!!?? Looks great! You considering selling the rear peg system that you took off? If so I'm looking to buy!

Look at the weeper valve in the water pump, if thats leaking coolant its likely that the mechanical seal in it is bad. If its still running crappy, the carb boot might have a small tear, they are know to tear on these quads quite easily.
