Helmet Cams!

I just purchased a GoPro Helmet Hero waterproof high-definition sports and helmet camera to capture my adventures this coming spring and summer. Anyone else have experience with cams? Any advice or tricks and tips I should know? I'm really excited to try it out!

Be sure and get some good video editing software. I use Pinnacle. You will want to edit it to take out the boring stuff. Not to many people like to watch a 10 minute video on YouTube.

get the batery back-pac... you wont regret it ( just have a pretty big memory card aswell... 4 hour bat life but 2 hour worth of recording doesnt make sense! lol

another thing is. consider the mounting locations... either helmet or atv... atv looks WAY better ( if its close to the ground )
but helmet cams are way more stable...
just dont forget you have a cam protruding from your helmet so duck/avoid branches even more...

I believe it has a 32gig card. (from the product description) Actually, it has the capacity for 32. No card with it. No worries though, I'm kind of an electronics geek so I have plenty of cards at hand. Here's a link to the description. I had also received a gift card for Christmas so I ended up paying just under $150 for the camera.

Good points! I will have to experiment. I was thinking of a few trial runs in the front end loader or forklift at work!

Good deal! Do you know the class #. In general its recommended to have a class 10 for recording video so you get the smoothest video. If your not sure, just do a test video. You'll likely be okay. Ive got a class 4 card and it records to it pretty well.

A tip of advice to make interesting videos. Multiple camera angles. Most shots don't last longer then 10 seconds in professional videos. So get creative where you mount it.

Also, as mentioned above, good video software is a must. I use imovie on my Mac. Lots of moe cost options out there.

I just bought one from Future Shop as well. I bought a SanDisk Extreme 16GB card for it, it is a class 10 card. I have a Mac (actually 3 of them) so now I get to figure out how to use iMovie! The camera will also get use on our Ducatis as well.

I have had a little Tachyon XC camera for a while now and have noted a few simple hints to guide the the less intelligent such as I to a better batch of raw footage to work with.
1 - Always have fresh batteries installed when you set out.
2 - Carry Spare Batteries.
3 - Have a good sized class 6 or better memory card installed
4 - Have a spare memory card.
5 - If practical, run a lanyard on it is if it's knocked off it's mount it can be a fair mongrel to find as most manufacturers prefer black or camo colours.
7 - Every so often check for water or dust or mud or birdsh** or permanent marker on the lens window as this can ruin long sections of footage if left unchecked.
8 - Carry cleaning gear, small and light to carry and your camera will be thankful for it.
9 - Remenber to turn your camera off when you stop or return to camp as finding you have 4 hours of the same scene recorded can be a little frustrating.
10 - IF you feel the urgent need to answer a call of nature either turn the bloody thing off or at least walk out of it's field of view .
11 - Don't let friends use it, some of the footage returned may not be quite what you would expect ....

I am sure you can all add to this list but it's what I have found to be useful so far.....

Regards - MM

Got the ContourGPS for Xmas. Plan to mount it on the side of my helmet. Like the idea of a Google Map video overlay to show where the video is being taken. Picked up case, spare battery and 32Gb card.
