polaris winch problems

I recently purchased this winch from my local dealer for $419 and it has been only been used a few times. I have to ride in water to get to where i ride but it is nothing to deep. Today, i was riding and needed to pull a stuck friend out so i started winching it out and it just stopped and it wont go in or out.. Not to sure what to do and when it did work for a second, i had to push out to pull in. I tried putting it on free pull out and it would not budge at all. I think the cable is tangled inside the winch but im not sure how to untangle it. If you could help it would be much appreciated.. THANKS,

attach to tree, and drive backwards in free spool?

sounds like you have cable all messed up, the tree idea might just work

I tried hooking to the back of my sportsman 500 and it wouldnt budge.. im going to try the tree thing and see how that works.

That's how I could free up a tangled winch years ago. Now I am super careful about my cable and how it is spooled. I had a few scary rescue situations that required me getting my winch cable out as fast as I could. Treat your gear right and it will take care of you.
