Need Trailer Recommendation
I am looking for trailer recommendations. I have one ATV that I just bought (2012 Polaris 850 H.O. Touring Limited Edition) and I am looking to buy another one (more than likely a 2012 Polaris X2 550).
The dimensions of both ATVs are:
86.5"L x 47.6"W x 58.25"H
93.25"L x 47.6"W x 49.5"H
More than likely I would buy a open trailer. Aluminum would be nice but not mandatory. Any suggestions?
I thought I picked out the perfect trailer - the Aluma A315 ATV. It is all aluminum which would be nice as it will probably sit outside a lot (not the atvs). So I called Aluma and they told me that they stopped making this model as the wheels are centered and having the wheels centered messes up w/ the tongue weight. They mentioned the wheels should be positioned 40/60 rather than centered.
So now I am starting my search again. Any recommendations?????? Thanks in advance!

I just picked up a trailer last week. I had been borrowing my brother's trailer, which was sort of like a 2 place sled trailer. I had to take ramps with me everywhere I went. I HATED it.
After looking for months because I wasn't sure what I wanted, I found a used one I liked for $1075 on Craigslist. I guess the guy had ten emails within an hour, but he said I was first. Came with a full size spare. Trailer prices around me are rather comical. It's nothing to see used go for 80% of new even though it is 7 years old. It is an open landscape style trailer with the fold down rear ramp, and a side fold down ramp. Works awesome. I can load and unload the ATVs in minutes. Just leave them in gear with the parking break on and they don't move, and with one foot sides they couldn't roll off anyway. I usually strap them just as a precaution. It is 6.5'x14' single axle. Michigan requires brakes if it is a tandem so I was trying to avoid that. I pull it with a Suburban, so I wasn't really worried about tongue weight or braking. I can fit 2 in long ways. If my measurements are right, I can fit my Sportsman long ways and the Traill Boss and a kids ATV side loaded for when my daughter gets a little older. With the side ramp, side loading would be easy.
Ideally, I want an aluminum enclosed 22' to hold 3 full size ATVs. I just didn't have the money to drop $4k+ on one right now.
I considered a car hauler. You can get an 18' one for about $1900 if you go straight from a factory. You could hold quite a few ATVs. I didn't just because I wanted built in ramps, and if I was going to spend that much I would have went enclosed.
Aluminum open trailers are really nice, but for how much money they are you can get an enclosed. Because I go up north often, I would prefer an enclosed for theft and weather reasons. We were up north last week, and I watched them get rained and snowed on for 2 days.
Sorry for the long post, I just went through the same thing so I'd thought I would share.

Take a look at the Aluma 6316LW, it is an inline style trailer. I have been using one for several years and have been very happy.

Looks nice! How does it tow? What do you use to tow it?
Also, I only have a mid size SUV to tow it (Mitsubishi Montero Sport or a Honda Odyseey MiniVan). Do you think these would pull it?
I was also hoping to get a trailer was single axle. Why did you go w/ 2 axles? Thanks in advance!

Tows excellent, tracks nicely behind the vehicle. I typically tow it with a 1/2 ton pickup but we have pulled it with both a car and a small SUV (Chevy Blazer) as it is really lightweight (600lbs without the sides).
They do make a 14ft version of it that is single axle. I personally like the tandems as I feel they track straighter behind the vehicle. I also like the piece of mind that if I blow a tire I have the 2nd one to safely get of the road with and if need be slowly limp it somewhere for repair. The tandems are really more for my piece of mind and at 16' in length it just adds to the stability.

I went with a 14' v nose United Enclosed trailer. Tows great and holds two full size quads end to end or three sport quads getting creative with the loading.
I do a lot of riding, hours away from home. So i needed the security. I had an open trailer but I hated staying overnight at hotels worrying about the quad getting lifted off the trailer in the wee hours of the night. I had security cables tied thru the wheels and frame but I just got tired of all that. Now I load them up and lock the doors.
No way you can get a 20' aluminum enclosed for 4K. Try 6K around here. I had to go with steel framed, Alumium box.

Thank you for the info. You mention 2 full sized quads. Does that include these 2?
The dimensions of both ATVs are:
86.5"L x 47.6"W x 58.25"H
93.25"L x 47.6"W x 49.5"H
These are the Polaris 2up Touring LE and X2 dimensions for 2012. I find them longer than most quads and thus challenging for trailering.
Also how do you think your enclosed with pull w/ a mid sized SUV (Mitsuibishi Montero Sport) or mini van (Honda Odyssey)? thnks again

Those 2 quads will fit in a 14 footer using the v nose for another foot of clearance. I would go with a 16 footer to get your storage space back though. You need at least 5,000 pounds of pulling capacity on your vehicle if you go with a steel enclosed 16 footer and two fully loaded quads. Chop that by 700 pounds if you go with an aluminum trailer. Don't think a Montero or Odyssey can pull that.
You might want to stick to an open aluminum trailer. An Aluma 8812A will hold both nicely and it's only 800 pounds dry, dropping your GVW down to 3,000 pounds. You probably can pull that with your vehicles but check the owners manual to be sure.

Smoothbassman -
Thank you for your input!!!!!! I really appreciate it. So in regards to the Alumna A8812. It appears I can NOT fit my 2 atvs parallel with the trailer (as it is not long enough). The only way I see that it would work is to side load the Touring model which is 86.5" long and then back load the X2 which is 93.5" long. Overall width of trailer is 88" which supports only the Touring model. Overall length of this configuration is 140.85" (trailer bed length is 154" which allows room between on side and back). Is this what you were thinking or am I missing something?
Also, why do some trailers have the small wheels (like the A8812) whereas other trailers have the bigger wheels? Is it simply to give a total flat surface over the small wheels for the sake of trailer bed usuable space?
Thanks!@!!!!!!!!

Your right about the config on the 8812. One side loaded and the other end loaded. Smallest trailer maximizing space.
You could go end to end with a 8114 and have 15" tires for a little better ride. It's a little bigger.
As for the trailer configs, deck overs give you a lot more usable space since the wheels are under the trailer itself. Its also a more narrow trailer. Makes it a pain for changing a spare and the center of gravity is a bit higher making you have to carry a bit more tongue weight to keep it stable, but in the end, it's a matter of preference.
I don't like deck overs personally, but my buddies have them and they work very nice. Just make sure you use quality rachet straps. You don't want your quads rolling off that thing on the highway. Seen a quad hit the road at 60 MPH. Not a pretty sight!
