Anyone run a "chafe" gaurd on there winch??

As the title says?

When I got my synthetic rope for my winch it came with a nylon sleeve aka chafe gaurd, I was wondering if anyone else was useing one? mine got bunched up in my winch and caused me some issues. Anyone else had this problem? If so how did u fix it, besides removing it.

I have been using the synthetic rope for 2+ years now & never used a chafe guard, with no issues at all.
I plow snow & have pulled myself out of some pretty deep mud holes with the synthetic & have had no probs.
I would say if its causing you issues remove it. JMO

I did, and cut the stupid thing off. You could slide it down the line and wrap it up in the drum if you wanted to keep it.

I had the same problem as you, so what I did was I pulled the rope and the chafe and duct taped it on both ends and solved the problem.

I agree it is a pain when spooling in or out, but I just deal with it. Because I know the second I cut it off the rope will get chafed on a rock or tree the next time I use it. When unspooling I grab the end of the chafe guard and the hook with one hand and pull it out. When spooling in I help the chafe guard in 6" to 12" and then it feeds itself in the rest of the way.

I keep mine further inside the spool. This way if I need it I can pull it down to protect the rope if needed. For plowing it causes issues & only gets in the way.
