Steel cable vs synthetic rope?
Getting my new winch Monday, but was thinking of getting rid of the steel cable for the synthetic rope. Other than losing some weight on the front end what are the benefits?

if the line breaks u can just tie the two pieces back together and keep winching, atleast til u can get it permantetly fixed. with repeated use the steel cable kinks and freys. the barbs tend to stab u even through gloves.

Synthetic is a bit more fragile than steel. Have to make sure it does not rub on anything that might break or fray the synthetic strands.

Synthetic has a little bit of stretch, but it makes it probably a little easier to use, and it wont freeze so easy, wont kink and wont have pieces of steel sticking in your hands.. for breakage, i don,t know, but i think its at least as solid as steel.. but i prefer synthetic..

A friend of mine broke his synthetic rope. He was on his RAZR and was going to tow another ATV out of a mud hole. He went to give it a tug, but was bumper to bumper with the ATV then backed up full throttle. The rope snapped. One cool thing was the rope didn't have all the dangerous recoil that steel would have had. This way exceeded the rope's limits when a gentle tug would have been more effective and safer.

Syn line is actually stronger than steel!! BUT as stated, its not nearly as durable... Most are also NOT UV safe. meaning the sun will deterioate it. I keep mine covered.
I use it on my Jeeps and my ATV's. Far safer!

I was watching modern marvels the other day, of course they are much larger they make ship mooring lines outta the same rope. I like mine one thing is it seems to reverse feed some times while I'm plowing but it's not a huge deal
