Deep snow question

Bike: 2011 850 xp

Stored in NON heated garage.

Situation:
Riding in deep snow.
Snow everywhere.
Formation of ice where the bike is hotter.

Question:
Is it bad for the bike to be full of snow and ice. Considering the bike is in a non heated garage (does not melt)...
Of course I make sur the wheels are ok and that the brakes work fine. But I mean there is ice and snow everywhere.

Can it be bad?

Do you have any advice for me who is a newbie in the ATV world!

you're ok.. It can handle snow and ice and everything is waterproof.. Don't make it a habit to leave electrical connections etc packed in snow and ice.. It'll eventually cause a problem.. Dielectric grease on your electrics is a good idea no matter how you ride, but its a must if you're going to do this with any regularity..
If you rode anywhere with salt on the ground (crossing a road etc).. Get it off asap..

I have not had any problems with that. Mine gets put away like that fairly regularly, in a nonheated garage as well. I'm sure that is very common and I haven't heard of anyone having problems because of it.

THanks guys.

I don't go where there is salt so I'm good.

When the spring gets here and the bike is dry I will for sure look into that grease you mentionned for the electrical!

I still try nocking the snow off with a stick before I put it away. It keeps your floor a heck of a lot dryer.

The way I look it is, snow turns to water and water wrecks stuff, so I get as much snow off my machine as possible..

Hey Dan,

What a buddy of mine did is pick up a bundle of levelwall (ridgid foam insulation) that
is in a folded up bundle. Unfold it around the bike, and cut a piece to set on top. Then
put a 100W lightbulb inside, and 2 or 3 hours dry as a bone. The leverwall can be picked
up at any building supply for around 40.00.

I think that it is better to be left frozen than a continious freeze, thaw, freeze, thaw. That could lead to condensation in a half full fuel tank, or what ever else. If it is frozen, there is no water dripping on or around joints ect. Yea I know it is all sealed for water, but whatever. In my 30 years of sledding, my stuff is in a unheated garage 24/7/365 unless I am using it. I never brought the sled into a heated shop unless needed to. Might be stuck in my old school ways, but that is what I think.
