New CDI and machine is now not running right

I ordered a new CDI box because I could no longer use the kill switch or key to shut the motor down. I had just been using the ground wire off of the old CDI unit that plugs into the "triplet ground" (speedometer, kill switch, and i think key) and grounding it to the frame to kill the motor. I decided to replace the unit so everything would function correctly. However now that everything is plugged back up the way it should the motor cranks fine, will shut off with kill switch and key but when you rev the motor past idle it sputters, backfires, and then shuts off. I am lost! The switch that controls lights, kill, start and override is new and was installed by Polaris tech. Please somebody tell me what I need to do.

need info on the atv . year, model? carbed or efi?

1999 Polaris sportsman 500. It is carbed. I don't think it's a carb issue. When I disconnect the ground wire it runs like it should. Only when the ground is connected do I have the stutter, backfire, shut off problem.

rev limmiter box ,rev overide box whatever you wana call it ,its probably the cause !

Is that the cylinder shaped mechanism above the CDI box? If so, it has several brown wires coming out of it and one is cut. Not sure where or what it attaches to. I purchased the atv from a guy about three weeks ago and am trying to get it right.

should be rectangle shape just to the left of the cdi (if your standing in front) not sure how many wires or what color they are . a pic is worth 1000 words !

Does the 99 have a rev limiter on it? I think it only has the CDI box and the coil which is located above the CDI

hmm , does it have a reverse override push button on the handle bar ?
