Spare Tire Advice ...

Was looking to mount a spare tire/jack hookup on my 500. Anyone have any suggestions that you've tried or prefer? Not sure if anything is offered for the Sportsman but I'd love to see what's out there and/or hear your suggestions. Plus, how about some pictures! I have the Rotopax fuel packs on my back rack now so was thinking either the front rack or mounting them to either brush guard. What do you think? Thanks in advance for any help.

Never done it or seen it up close, but I would suggest finding a way to mount it to the front brushguard. They had them mounted similarly to this when my S-I-L rented some on her honeymoon in Pennsylvania but they didn't have the guards on, the spare acted as a guard if you follow.

IMO mounting it there will give you some added weight it the front when climbing especially if you already have fuel in the rear weighing you down. Not sure if you can weld, but it seems like it could be a relatively simple fabrication. You may even be able to find a used hub/lugs cheap.

Seems like if you mount it to the front rack you'll lose use of the pod headlight and you'll have to remove it to use the box. Just my .02, good luck!

Have you received an answer yet on the spare tire issue? I recall seeing a posting (still looking) where someone built a spare tire rack with the mount attached to the receiver on the back of the ATV. If I cross the article will forward.

What tires do you have? Most aftermarket tires have enough rubber to fully support you and your bike with 0 psi. If you have the stock AT489 tires, they most likely will flatten and you will damage your rim. My swamp lites at 0 psi will fully hold their shape.... Just an idea

Nope, haven't yet. Still sort of looking as to what I could use. Possibly just try and mount it somehow to the front brushguard. Would like to see the article though if you come up with it. Thanks.

Thanks for the idea but I do have just the stock tire/rim on it. Or, at least for now.

I don't know of anyone around here who carries a spare. Most of us have a tire repair kit. I've never needed to do anything more than plug a tire and air it up.Slime has a kit with a small air compressor that plugs into the outlet, thats the one i use. Why do you feel you need a whole spare tire/wheel? Just curious.

I carry the Slime and pump as well as tire plugs. When I ride at the Cliffs or the Badlands I bring spare tires and wheels in the truck. One front one rear. We all ride Polaris quads so it is no problem. Have blown the tires off the rim before and just sent someone to the truck to bring a spare.

just an idea, im not sure how well this would work, but what if you got some REALLY durable tire tubes? sure it will be bald... but its easy to pack and just change tires...
(also brings me you might need a muffler powered air bag jack!)

another idea is, to put it upfront, where the bumper is.
saw some rentals had tires like that (bumper and spare at the same time)
or if you have an x2 or no rear bag/box, the rear rack would also be an idea...

Well, we hope to do a lot of trail riding amongst the other things we encounter as we ride and would like to be prepared in case of a mishap. While we are at some of the local ATV parks, we don't worry as much and can usually resolve the problem via the local workshop or if we carry a spare in the truck. I would basically like it for piece of mind for that just in case moment.
