Question after hearing about oil in air box
I was reading about someone getting a new 850 touring model. A comment was made about hoping the problem with oil in the air box was fixed.
I am looking at getting a used 800 touring and want to know if this problem applied to the 800 and if so would like some more information about what exactly the problem is.
thanks in advance for your help
Tom

Oil in AIrbox links
Here's the thread:

(Scroll down to the last couple of pages to see the fix)
Found the other thread as well here:
oil in air box
Basically the 2012's have some redesigned parts that will correct the problem if you experience it.

Not a problem in the 800. No worries there.

Thanks everyone for the information. I am looking at an 08, 800 so I will not be affected by this problem. I have been reading about how well the 800 / 850 like fuel. I am guessing I should have a fuel pack or two.
I am not at all worried about the cost for the fuel usage, just wouldn't want to run out when I'm on the back 40. It seems like most recommend the roto pack as the container of choice.
Again thanks for the quick response

As said, does not apply to the 800. Completely different...no worries.

the oil in the airbox just happends after your flipped your bike. because there is a tube that goes from your airbox into the transfer case. when you flip the bike some of the oil runs back into the airbox.

Not on 850s. It just shows up there under normal driving conditions.

i am fairly new and haven't found any info yet but this would help to explain why my 2010 scrambler lost close to half a quart of oil when she [almost] flipped ass over tea kettel on me today, or is that too much oil oss for that. I just did the first oil change on it yesterday and did a fairly high speed ride today, not sure how well broke in the atv is yet but the dealer told me after the first tank so that is what I went with. Could it have been too soon and i had that much blow-by?
sorry for the rambler thank you in advance
