New member here, great site,
I am trying to insure my 1997 polaris Xplorer 400L, the vin number on the title is 3203185
this number is also stamped on the right side upper frame, under the seat. next to the engine. The insurance company is stating that they need a 17 digit vin#.........not sure whats going on......any help would be appreciated.

Good Day Woody,
The Vin number is located on the Manufacturer`s sticker that is located on the front plastic just below the oil filler cap. If the sticker is missing you can find the numbers on the frame on the right side of the quad just in front of the engine.

Come to think of it even more i am 99% certain that on the 90's models of the Xplorer the vins were only 6 or 7 numbers. Your insurance company should still be able to insure it as lots of imported motor vehicles have only 6 to 17 numbers.

Go to Search-VIN
Explorer 400 L originally owned by Randy Gelly when new. The VIN number is valid.
Maybe someone should make this site a sticky.

Polaris atv's made before 1998 only had a 7 digit VIN. On your model the VIN number is on the frame rail that runs at a angle just in front of the gear shifter. You will see a model tag on one side of that frame rail and the other side of the frame rail will have a "*" symbol followed by the VIN.

Yeah, good luck. You're not the first person who has dealt with in an insurance company that can't figure it out.
