1996 Scrambler Cylinder Question
not to long ago I received a 1996 Scrambler that needed work in a trade and so far have worked on it more than ride it , got it with stuck ring and bad oil pump -ran pre-mix and got the ring free and replaced upper gaskets ran maybe 30 min total and toasted head gasket ,replaced head gasket again both times bleeding coolant before and not much longer another head gasket, so i disassembled the engine to find the jug was cracked got new stock bore cylinder jug but not sure if the one i got will work, head and base would bolt up but intake is angled up on the new one and old one has extra ports on bottom left an right of intake just want to know if they are interchangeable or if i have to look for another jug any help would be great thanks. the cylinder on the left is the new one

my '99 has the intake angled. that's what part of the problem is with getting used stuff is,you never really know what the other owners did to it or why. you should have the head checked for warpage. since you have it apart ,did you check the crank for play, you may not feel like doing a bottom end right now but if it does need it, now would be a good time.

thanks for the fast replys really just wanted to know if the piston that i bought for my 96 scrambler will work in the new jug, the head was checked and found to be straight along with the top and bottom of the cylinder the whole motor is apart and the crank, rod and wrist pin bearings look good and tight i have a complete gasket and seal kit that will be put in hopefully soon and i think that the intake should fit but not a real big deal it was already modified for the flat slide carb and i can make something work just wanted to know if the pistons are different or if the ports that are missing in the new one are important i am not even sure that is factory the jug was ported to the max and the atv had some aftermarket stuff like carbonfiber v-force reeds ,trail pipe, and 38mm flat slide the thing ripped with a good head gasket, thanks any help is appreciated, i know that the piston is the right size not if they changed in the angled jug compared to the straight jug
