Tires on 2010 Sportsman 850

Hi gang,
Just bought a 2010 Sportsman 850 XP EPS and will be going on the first ride with it this weekend. I was told by some fellow riders to 1) get a new set of tires and 2) buy a lot of tire plugs until the new tires come in. Are the Carlisle Terrathon tires that came with it that bad??? If so any recommendations for new tires? I don't want to change any setups, just slap on new tires and ride. They are 26x8-14 on front and 26x10-14 on rear.

Thanks

The stock tires will get holes pretty easily since they are only two ply. Plugs may come in handy. I am looking at some GBC spartacus or grim reapers. Both are an 8 ply tire.

Mud Lites??? Should be called Mud Heavys!! I won't argue...they are a mean tire, but heavy! Maxxis Zillas are the way to go. Light weight, and just as mean.

2010 Sportsman 800EFI
28" Zillas on 14" SS212 Blacks
RubberDownCustoms 2" Lift
3500lb Polaris Winch
Rear Rack Extender w/Moose cargo box (modified)

Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Thanks everybody, I think I am leaning towards the Maxxis Zillas. Both got great reviews on the web. All I have to do is try to figure out how to sneak 4 new tires past the bride

You might have to use the F-U money.... then again, with a new bride, that fund might be low..lol

Love my XTR's!

If there's a trail I ride em'...
If there is no trail I make one...

bigjer keep this in mind, the radial will give you the best ride. i have had the XTR,ZILLAS AND BIGHORNS on my 850,the zillas are a light weight mud tire and they ride like a mud tire. love zillas for mud but NOT for trails.
