2008 sportsman 400 overheating
2 part question here.
I bought a new 2008 sportsman for my daughter this past march...not a problem with it...until we hit some mud...and the mud dries. The radiator will clog and until you pressure wash it---the machine will run hot. The coolant---fan--thermostat and water pump all appear to be ok.
My question--- is this a common problem?
My second question is ----after looking at the problem --a solution I would like to try is to put a mesh material to surround the radiator and prevent the mud such easy access. Do they make anything like what I am thinking of?
Thanks
tom

How about keeping the radiator out of the mud?

LOL
Maybe show her that the temp indicator means the quad is asking for a radiator bath from the garden hose ASAP.
Really cool that you got her riding.

She loves it...and loves spashing through the muddy puddles.... unfortunately the state forrest were we end up riding has no running water.... just a hand pumped well (that you cant attach a hose to)....I am glad that she is very responsible while riding...and smart enough to listen to me when I tell her to shut down when her warning lights come on--till I can check them out. Guess I will have to try to build an outer guard to try to keep the radiator clear....and rig up some kind of 12v water sprayer that I can use to blast the crap out before it dries...
