Type of Video Camera and Editing tools

Just a quick question for ya....What type of camera do ya recommend? Do you use any protective cases? After you video all day what do you use to add music and edit the videos?

Power Director is a really good video editing software. Easy to use once you play around with it a little.

GoPro Hero for the Camera

It comes with a protective/waterproof case. It has lots of available accessories. My suggestion is to get an extra battery. They don't last too long on a cold day.

Like above, Power Director is very good. Windows Live Movie Maker can do simple decent stuff.

Yep, GoPro HERO HD. Best thing ever. I have two now. Here is a link to one of my videos. Feel free to look at my others, if you want to see more with the camera. At this point, I use iMovie. I plan to get the new version of Final Cut Studio, when it could out later this year.

Video quality is good, but the distortion from the fisheye lens is a deal killer for me.

I have a POV-1 helmet cam. It takes great video. The think I like about it is you have a tethered handheld that you put in a pocket or pouch. It has wrist band with a Record button on it. The nicest thing is the two recording modes. One is always on and the other called "Loop" mode is always on but not recording. When you hit the record button it will record a 3 minute segment. About 1/2 before you pressed the button. It is always recording to memory and puts it on SD card when record is pressed in Loop mode. The advantage to this is you never know when a great scene or event is going to happen, this way you can record it. You can record all of the time but you get two much video to sort through and edit. I use Pinnacle Studio to edit.

I really like the Vio Pov 1080p camera. There is no fisheye and also has a remote microphone that you can route up to the helmet in order to narrate your video in real time. This could be a quite entertaining or could be irritiating too. I don't particulary like the hard line tether from the camera to the DVR, but I believe these are the best action cams on the market right now. Downside is the Vio is pretty pricey.

The video rendering on youtube is pretty awful, upload time is dependent on file size and the speed of your internet connection. I feel obligated to say that for most of us buying a 1080p action camera right now doesn't make a lot of sense. Go to the vio website and try to watch the movie in 1080p. My DSL connection is not good enough to download that video fast enough to play it although I can tell the camera makes an awfuly nice 1080p video. Nothing wrong with any of this I'm just saying that when buying a HD action cam you will have really good videos to watch at home on your DVD, but your ability to share them on youtube - at least in HD is greatly diminished.
