Nubee from Hudson, FL

just purchased a 04 sportsman 500 HO w/190hrs. Trying to change all fluids, plugs,UNI,rear bearings so I can give hell but...Im getting 2 diff stories on rear diff/tranny. Polaris says they're seperate. I drained tranny (drain on bottom side rt, fill on left) but i cannot find rear diff drain or fill? Also im told to drain crankcase oil in addition to black box oil? canusesome insight as im in search of a manual now.

rear diff/trans ?

Thanks, i appreciate it. Ive browsed these forums but cannot find answer for only one ? left... Are the rear diff & trans the same unit? Im mechanically incline & I dont see a rear diff dr & fill plugs. Polaris says they're seperate, what say you?do I put the AGL+ and the angle drive in trans if its one?? I hope i put thisin the rt thread/forum, not computer savy!

I looked in my repair manuel and it says that the 500 gets POLARIS SYNTHETIC GEAR CASE LUBE OR EQUIVALENT in the trans. The rear gearcase gets API GL-5 80W-90 GEAR OIL OR POLARIS FRONT GEARCASE LUBE.I think that is also called ANGLE DRIVE.I don't know why they call it front lube for the rear,It's confusing! The rear gear case is in between the rear axels.thought I would add:engine oil is POLARIS 0W-40 or equivalant.front gear case gets POLARIS FRONT GEAR CASE LUBE[ASSUMING YOU DONT HAVE ELECTRIC HUBS].hope that helped

Thanks, yea the rear diff is in same case as trans with nothing dividing them apart. And nowhere on rear diff is drain or fill plug...so I assume they're one unit? Tnks again dads600

I just remembered that on twin cylinder engines they're separate.on singles they're integrated.
