2012 Sportsman 500 HO touring *POS*

I bought my 2012 Sportsman 500 HO touring two weeks ago and have put all of 4 hours on it and have discovered I should have bought something else as this thing is a piece of crap. Stalls all the time. I hit the brakes and the lights and display goes dead, winch isn't working right. Polaris says I should take it back to the dealer I got it from. That would be fine if it wasn't an hour away and I had a trailer. Now I have to rent a trailer, and haul that POS down there so they can keep it for a week. I bought a brand new machine so I could ride it, not to have it worked on.

For the price I paid for it I could have bought a new KIA and put a lift kit on it. At least they are reliable.

I feel that the dealership should give me a new machine. What do you think?

Welcome to the forum. You might give the dealer a call and be nice to them. Explain your problem and tell them you don't have a trailer and they might come pick it up for free or might charge a small fee. Sometimes things happen because they are things that are made by humans and it might be a simple fix. Let us know what happens. Thanks

Don't get me wrong, I loved it on the showroom floor, loved it on the trailer, loved it in my garage....hated it on the trail when it stalled every five minutes, hated it when the winch wouldn't work so I couldn't get i back on the trailer (it wouldn't restart) I bought it because it is "The best selling ATV." I'm just wondering if this is what I should expect for the life of the vehicle. I apologize for ranting but I am very disappointed with polaris.

No, it's not something you should expect. All of the problems I've seen or heard of before, and I bet they are fairly easy fixes. These are things the dealer should have easy noticed during their PDI. Especially the winch issue. You dealer should be taking half the blame here.

As TT, humans make mistakes. Let's right give them the benefit of doubt and assume these are honest mistakes (which should of been easy to spot)

Take TT's advice and call the dealer, and ask them to come pick it up because of your situation. It isn't fair to you to front those costs, because again the PDI should have revealed all of these issues.

I know when I was working at the shop, and we made an honest screw up, our boss would go pick the machine up and bring it back to the shop to be fixed and made right.

If they care about customer service, the shop will make this right.

This is a Polaris owner forum and I doubt you are going to find many poeple here that will slam Polaris like you want to hear. Maybe go to a Can-Am forum and complain and you will get the responses you are looking for.
Hold on a second. I have a Polaris, a Honda, and two Can-Ams. Why the harshness on the Can-Ams?

Gotcha. I thought there might be an underlying feeling towards the Can-Am crowd.
I have two Outlander 400 Max's. They ride like a dream, and have taken all the crap we can give. My wife has no issues about riding on back if we are sharing the other one. Hell, I've even ridden on back while she drives. It's the most comfortable passenger ride of any vehicle I've ridden behind. My brother has a 500 X2 which is a great machine. I have not had a chance to run my Scrambler through it's paces, but it sure is quicker than the Can-Ams.

I will start off by saying I have had a long day...but this is on my nerves.

Why do people think joining a forum of enthusiasts just to put up a post about what the forum is based on sucks? Do they really think everyone will care when that is their approach? What is the goal? To tell people who they have never met that what they enjoy is stupid? If that ridiculous goal makes their situation better, than their situation isn't really that awful.

By taking the first day they joined to bash Polaris, they have effectiviely built no reputation here. They never seem to ask what could be causing the problem nor do they try to figure it out themself. For this situation, I would have been more than happy to help with the winch, I am pretty good at electrical diagnosis. Haven't had a problem I couldn't fix yet, but now I could care less.

That's awesome that there are people on the forum who try to help despite everything, but they are obviously better people than I.

And nobody should take this personally, this thread is just one in a long line of the same type.
