EPS worth the money

I am looking at getting a new machine here pretty quick and the price diff is quite a bit. Trying to decide 2011 XP 850, 2011 XP 850 EPS and a 2012 XP 850 just to be used around the home and trail riding I have some acreage to matane. Also what would be the best price on these machines I noticed they have 1000 dollar rebate on the 2011s and 800 on the EPS ones. Would appreciate your comments.

What did you end up paying for your 2012 if you don't mind.

I was 2 seconds away from buying a leftover without EPS for $7,200. I have seem them go for $6,800. A 2011 with EPS will run you about 8-8.5K. Make sure you do your research before you make the purchase. GOOGLE all known issues on every brand you are considering.

Well, I do not own one yet, but I've done extensive research on both Polaris and Can-Am as they seem to be the only real players in the ATV game, right now. The Can-Am had some frame issues until this year (2012), but have fixed the problem with the Generation 2 frame. Other than that, Can-Am seems to be the best built and most reliable machine out there. Polaris is also very appealing as they are known to have the best all around ride, however, they also seem to be more problematic than the CA's. I do not like to bash anything, especially because I have no personal experience with either brand, but if you look on both sites, it definitely seems that the new XP's are built a little 'crappy'. Some issues I've read about on the XP's are as follows:

- Oil In Air Box
- Engines Blowing
- EPS Failing
- A-Arms Breaking
- Belt's Failing

There are more, but all you need to do is start reading on this thread. Please, do not mistake my motives, I'm just passing on what I have read ON HERE. I'm not saying they are a piece of crap, but if I'm gonna spend $10,000, then I'm gonna do all the research I can in an effort to keep from making the wrong purchase.

I'm sure some others will chime in and give their opinion, too.

Good Luck!

I personally would NOT buy an XP. For the issues mentioned above.

I would also not buy the 2011 850. They did not fix the oil in air box until 2012.

I wouldn't buy power steering because it is too expensive to fix.

I wouldn't buy Can Am because I think their AWD system is a bad design, visco-lock. They are also expensive compared to Polaris.

I would only buy a 500 or 800 because I want to mod it, not repair it. I might consider a 550XP without EPS because the XP problems seem to mainly be on the 850XP.

Just my .02 cents.
